CROSSHAVEN 2005 |

What can we say, we left Scotland for Cork on Thursday the 11th of August at 12:50 p.m from Edinburgh Airport on an 'aer arann' flight and descended upon the village of Crosshaven approximately 2 hours later! After booking into the 'Compass Rose' B & B owned by Tom & Kathleen Bermingham we set about having a look at our ship for the weekend, and what a ship this was! The "Wreck Hunter" is a twin hulled Wildcat 107 Catamaran, built in 2004 and has 2 x 6 litre Yanmar diesel engines that tore up the sea when we went out, all this and Joe Lynch for a skipper. What more could we ask for? ...... oh yeah some fish to catch! Friday was spent with some "relaxing" fishing anchored on a reef 15 miles offshore. Not for long as we were soon into our first conger of the day, then we hit some ling and spent the rest of the day reeling in "double figure" conger and ling. In total 9 species of fish were caught on Friday. Saturday our initial bout of fishing was for our bait for the day, Joe said we needed about 5 or 6 dozen mackerel.............5 or 6 DOZEN !!!! We shouldn't have worried because this figure was caught in a matter of minutes once we started fishing for them! Wow, we thought, "this IS looking good", and good it was as we had Ling, Conger and several other species over our club record weight. The fishing was inshore within 5 miles on a drift for a total of 3 hours, then we anchored on an inshore reef for a while. Most people recorded fish over their personal best limits! Will we be back? ........... you bet! |

The daily heaviest fish sweeps were won by Brian Nicholson for his club record Conger of 16lb on the friday, and Bill Johnston for another Conger of 14lb on the Saturday.
